Takeaways:
- Bullying occurs in different ways, such as physical, virtual, verbal, and social bullying. Bullies come from a trauma response, usually from the fight response.
- Teachers can stop bullying by getting curious, keeping an eye on the students behavior and seeking for help. Teachers need to see it, recognize it, and work with it.
- Teachers must not lable anyone in the classroom, insted of labeling the students, teachers must investigate why they are acting that way.
It is very common for teachers to try to make the disruptive students behave by punishing them and taking things away from them. We cannot take enough things away from a child to make them be okay. We need to be interested, curious, and willing to help them.iInstead of thinking "how can I make him work" we need to change it for "why is he acting like that" and "what can I do to imrpove our relationship." Children need to feel heard and we as teachers can be there for them and build a good relationship with them. We need to have conversations with them about their life, their interests and their feelings. Sometimes students do not want to share about their problems and a good way to help them is through art activities. They can express their feelings without feeling judged.
